The crash took place around 4:30 p.m. in the area of Linden Avenue near the Mill Creek Apartments.

Penndel Borough Chief of Police Sean Perry said a Tesla traveling westbound struck a curb in the right lane, crossed the roadway, and hit the rear of another vehicle. The Tesla continued across the highway, struck another curb, and caught fire.
The driver of the Tesla sustained minor wounds and declined medical treatment. The driver of the second vehicle was not hurt, officials said.

According to officials, fire crews experienced complications in suppressing the blaze due to the vehicle being electric.
The unique makeup of electric-vehicle batteries can make them difficult to extinguish.

Penndel Borough Fire Marshal Jim Bampfield said the charred Tesla was taken to a remote lot and covered with a special blanket designed for battery fires to prevent it from reigniting.
Simon’s Garage and Towing assisted with the vehicle’s relocation.

East Lincoln Highway was closed during the response and reopened to traffic at approximately 7 p.m.
