The Middletown Township Board of Supervisors has approved an expansion at St. Mary Medical Center.

The hospital’s plans came before the supervisors on Monday evening.
Township Director of Building and Zoning Jim Ennis described the addition as “fairly small in relation to the entirety of the medical center.”
The expansion, which is near the emergency department, is for MRI services.

The supervisors’ approval included several waivers recommended by the Middletown Township Planning Commission. The waivers included a partial waiver from requiring parking calculations on the plan zoning table, a partial waiver that eliminated the need for approval from the township’s Arbor Commission for the landscape plan, and a full waiver for preliminary final land development approval.
Paul Schmoll, the project engineer, said during a planning commission meeting last month that the hospital planned to install rain gardens to manage stormwater and runoff.

The planning commission was informed that there would be no change in the number of parking spaces.
St. Mary Medical Center, which opened 50 years ago with 373 beds, is the only trauma center in Lower Bucks County.
The hospital is located on a 53-acre campus that has undergone multiple expansion and improvement projects over the years.
