As Bristol Township looks to get more grants to fund projects, a contractor is being brought in to assist in those efforts.

Earlier this summer, Bristol Township Council approved a contract with Millennium Strategy Services for grant research and writing services as part of an expansion of the township’s efforts to secure external funding.

The agreement, which carries an annual cost not to exceed $48,000, will provide grant management and grant-seeking assistance across all township departments, including parks and recreation, infrastructure, and police.

“It is impossible for the township manager’s office to continue with grant management and grant seeking as we move forward,” said Township Manager Randee Mazur. “We do pretty well on our own. We’re pretty good here in Bristol Township with staff. I’m saying that because I’m patting my own back.”

Millennium Strategy Services has worked with neighboring municipalities including Falls Township and Middletown Township.

The firm has helped clients receive over $2 billion in grant funding since 2005, according to Mazur.

The contract will help in the township’s ability to compete for state and federal funding opportunities that could significantly offset local taxpayer costs for various municipal projects and programs.

The decision to hire professional grant writing contractor comes as municipalities face pressure to find alternative funding sources for infrastructure improvements, public safety equipment, and community programs.

Often, government grant applications require extensive documentation, detailed plans, and ongoing compliance reporting that can take up hours of time.
