As crews were leaving the burial for longtime volunteer firefighter Ed Margavich, 9-1-1 dispatchers alerted them at 3:01 p.m. that a home in the 900 block of Church Street in the township’s Croydon section was on fire.

“We were there in less than a minute,” said Croydon Fire Company Chief Tom Tryon, adding that his crews were backing their trucks into the State Road station when the call came in.

When they arrived, firefighters found flames rising up the back of the home.

No residents or firefighters were injured, but a neighbor tripped on a hose line and was taken to a local hospital for treatment, according to the chief.

Bristol Township Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito determined the fire was accidental and originated on the back porch.

Dippolito noted the quick response from the numerous fire companies in the area for the funeral.

In addition to Bucks County crews, the Beverly City Fire Department and Mitchell Fire Company from New Jersey, the Upper Gwynedd Township Fire Department and Centre Square Fire Company from Montgomery County, the Paoli Fire Company from Chester County, and the Yeadon Fire Company in Delaware County were among the trucks in the area that responded. Dippolito and Tryon noted there may have been additional companies on the scene.
