Langhorne Borough is mourning the death of former mayor and longtime public servant Chris Blaydon, who was in his early 90s.

Mayor Joe Taylor read a proclamation honoring Blaydon at a Wednesday’s borough council meeting.
The borough will fly the flag at Borough Hall on Maple Avenue at half-staff for 30 days.
Blaydon was a former Air Force and Pan Am pilot who served 11 years on the borough council and 20 years as mayor. He also chaired the Langhorne Borough Shade Tree Commission for 32 years.

The former mayor and popular figure around town was responsible for planting hundreds of trees and helped the borough earn the Tree City USA designation.
“With his passing, his family has lost a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and Langhorne Borough has lost one of the strongest and most enduring pillars of our community,” a statement from the borough said.

The proclamation approved by the council this week noted Blaydon’s dedication to the community. He was elected mayor in 1994 and served four terms until his retirement in 2013.
A 2013 profile in the Bucks County Courier Times it was noted Blaydon was instrumental in getting part of the borough designated a historic district and in saving the Langhorne Country Club from being developed into high-rise apartments.
“That’s one of the joys of being in a small town — the fact that you can see the results of what you do,” Blaydon said in the story. “It isn’t like it’s abstract and way over there.”

In Blaydon’s honor, the borough will plant a tree in recognition of his dedication to the community and environment. The borough had already planted a tree for him earlier this year.
