Officers were called to a home on Camellia Road shortly after 2 p.m. for a report of an assault, said police Capt. Peter Fenney.

The incident escalated to involve a knife, he said.

Fenney reported the woman at the residence claimed the male stabbed her, while the man alleged the female attempted to stab him and he was injured while trying to grab the knife.

The woman sustained a small puncture wound to her abdomen, and the man suffered a “significant laceration” to his hand, Feeney said.

Police are still investigating to determine the exact sequence of events.

Fenney confirmed the male will be charged with assault for a physical altercation that occurred prior to the knife’s involvement.
