Bristol Borough is taking steps to modernize its human resources management with new software that would streamline payroll processing, vacation scheduling, and accountability for municipal employees.

Mayor Ralph DiGuiseppe III, who recently lost the primary election, is spearheading the program as one of his final projects before leaving office in six months.

“We need to bring things up to speed in terms of how we submit payroll, vacation schedules and just keep accountability on what’s going on,” said DiGuiseppe, who oversees the police department.

The mayor said there is a need to modernize the borough’s systems and move away from outdated methods of tracking employee information.

“We need to get into the modern day where people can request days off and things of that nature from their phone,” DiGuiseppe explained. “And people like the chief and the borough manager can oversee the people that they see by literally going on their phone these days instead of pen and paper and Excel spreadsheets. Like, we’re beyond that at this point.”

The initiative represents part of the mayor’s effort to complete several key projects before his term ends in December.

The HR modernization is part of what Councilmember Greg Pezza stated was a broader push toward professionalism in the borough’s operations.

Pezza added that the council remains committed to “streamlining, professionalizing. and keeping things moving in the right direction,” noting that updating HR systems is “about time.”
