

Strong thunderstorms brought heavy rain and wind to the Levittown area in the early afternoon Friday,
The fast-moving system brought flash flooding that forced some motorists to abandon their vehicles.

Several days of rain contributed to water ponding on roads, rushing across pavement, and overflowing creek banks.

On Vermillion Way in Falls Township’s Levittown section, Martins Creek flooded, leaving at least one car stuck in the rising waters.
Vince McDonald and Jacqui Tackett reported seeing the water surge from the creek before the vehicle and its occupants became trapped. They required some assistance to get out from the water and to safety.

While the area is known to experience wet conditions and occasional flooding, McDonald and Tackett noted the rapid onset of Friday’s flooding.
Falls Township Fire Marshal Rich Dippolito stated that several roads throughout the township were impacted by flooding, including Oxford Valley Road and South Olds Boulevard.

A county spokesperson confirmed 9-1-1 received numerous calls for flooding incidents from across the area.

Police and fire crews responded to multiple calls, while PennDOT and municipal public works crews worked to block off flooded roadways.
By late afternoon, Vermillion Way remained under water and closed to traffic. A duck was observed taking advantage of the flooded road and using it as a temporary pond for a swim as the weekend approached.

According to the National Weather service, the area faces a chance of showers overnight into Saturday morning before clearing for the afternoon.
