Closed Falls Twp. Big Lots Gets New Life With Reopening

The Big Lots store in Falls Township, which closed its doors in March, is preparing to reopen under new ownership later this spring.

Variety Wholesalers, a North Carolina-based discount retailer, acquired the Big Lots brand after the original company experienced financial difficulties.

The new owner of the brand plans to reopen more than 200 locations.

The 40,000-square-foot store, located in the Fairless Hills Shopping Center on Lincoln Highway, is slated to reopen in early June, according to Variety Wholesalers, per a Fast Company report.

“The customer response to the newly expanded assortment of fresh inventory and great deals has been overwhelmingly positive,” said Lisa Seigies, president and CEO of Variety Wholesalers.

Variety Wholesalers acquired 219 Big Lots locations as the original company closed following bankruptcy.

Seigies said earlier this month that the “stores won’t be perfect to start, but each week we’ll add more new products as we build towards the grand opening celebration in the fall.”

Variety Wholesalers began the process of reopening Big Lots stores in the South in early April, with new stores reopening in May and June.

According to a statement from the new operator, customers can expect remodeled stores featuring a large selection of closeout deals and new merchandise categories, including apparel for the family and electronics.

Variety Wholesalers operates more than 400 stores across 18 states. Its retail brands include Big Lots, Roses Discount Stores, Roses Express, and Maxway.

The Fairless Hills Shopping Center, where Big Lots is located, has been sold to Ocean State Job Lot, a Rhode Island-based discount retailer, for $23.6 million.
