The Eurocopter Écureuil helicopter was observed flying between 50 and 150 feet above the tracks in Bristol Borough, Bristol Township, Falls Township, and Tullytown Borough along Amtrak’s busy Northeast Corridor.

“I could nearly jump up and touch it,” one resident reported.

Amtrak spokesperson Beth Toll confirmed that the helicopter was working on behalf of the rail line to conduct inspections.

The same helicopter, which was previously white, is often utilized by PECO to inspect high-tension power lines in the area.

The recent sightings prompted some residents to speculate about possible police activity or an emergency on the rail line.

According to its website, Catalyst Aviation, the company that owns the helicopter, specializes in aerial inspections and taking high-resolution photos of power lines to identify defects.

The company employs union-certified linemen and stores the images in a database for their clients.

The Northeast Corridor is the nation’s busiest passenger rail line.

In Lower Bucks County, it also serves freight trains and SEPTA’s Trenton Line commuter rail.
