Gary N. Margerum, of Falls Township’s Levittown section, was charged with dissemination of a photo of child sex acts, child pornography and criminal use of a communication facility. District Judge John Galloway preliminarily arraigned the man in the morning and set bail at 10 percent of $1 million.
The investigation by law enforcement began in December when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children contacted Bucks County Detectives regarding a Kik user who allegedly shared or uploaded child pornography, detectives said.
Margerum was identified as the suspected account holder, authorities said.

During the execution of the search warrant at Margerum’s home on Friday morning, he allegedly admitted to accessing, receiving, and occasionally disseminating child sexual abuse material, detectives said.
A search of Margerum’s iPhone revealed a suspected child pornography image dated January 2023. Margerum stated he believed he last accessed the image on Thursday, investigators said.

Bucks County Detectives said the probe is ongoing.
Friday’s arrest is not Margerum’s first encounter with law enforcement.
In 1988, while working as a police officer in Tullytown Borough, he was charged with kissing and fondling a 15-year-old girl. He was sentenced to probation and community service.

The past arrest resurfaced in 2016 and led to his resignation as president of the Falls Township Fire Company.
In 2018, Margerum and another former fire company official were charged with stealing money from the group. He was ordered to repay more than $10,000 to the fire company and to serve probation and community service.
