

A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle that then fled the scene Monday night on East Lincoln Highway.

The crash happened at approximately 10 p.m. near Reedman Toll Auto Group in Middletown Township the strong heavy rain and lightning that rolled through the area, police said.
According to police, a 35-year-old man, who identified himself as homeless, was walking westbound on the shoulder of East Lincoln Highway when he was struck by the right front of a silver vehicle.
The impact knocked the pedestrian to the ground. He reported that the female driver of the vehicle stopped briefly and spoke with him and suggested he go to the hospital, police said.

The driver then returned to her vehicle after speaking with the man who was struck and drove away, police said.
The man told investigators he had consumed “a few drinks” prior to the incident, police said.

The Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad responded to the scene and transported the victim to St. Mary Medical Center. He complained of knee, back, and neck pain, police Lt. Detective Steve Forman.
The man was reported to be in stable condition and was ambulatory while in the emergency room, Forman said.
The crash remains under investigation as of Tuesday morning.
