Route 1 Lane Closures Expected This Week

Drivers on Route 1 should expect lane closures this week as part of the ongoing overhaul project, PennDOT said.

From Monday through Wednesday, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., lane closures will be in place on Route 1 in both directions between Rockhill Drive and Fairhill Avenue.

Crews will be shifting northbound traffic onto newly constructed lanes on the bridge over Neshaminy Creek in Bensalem and Middletown townships.

PennDOT advises motorists to allow extra travel time when passing through the work zones.

The current work is part of Section RC2, the $116 million second phase of the three-phase project to improve four miles of Route 1.

PennDOT officials have said this phase is expected to be completed by mid-2025, a year ahead of schedule.

The next phase, RC3, will focus on improvements from the Penndel/Business Route 1 Interchange north through the Pine Street (Route 413) overpass in Langhorne Borough, Langhorne Manor Borough, and Middletown Township.

The final phase of the project is in the final design stages.

In 2014, PennDOT completed $14.8 million in improvements at the Route 1/Maple Avenue Interchange in Middletown Township as part of the broader initiative to modernize the Route 1 corridor in Bucks County.

The final phase of the Route 1 project has faced objections from residents and officials in Langhorne Borough, largely concerning impacts around Pine Street.
