Bucks County Treasurer Kristian Ballerini has resigned from her elected position and is moving to Washington state to be closer to family.

Ballerini, a Democrat, stepped down Monday after serving since 2020. She was elected in 2019 and 2023.
“I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished for the taxpayers in the Treasury during my tenure, and I thank the residents for the trust they placed in me,” Ballerini said in a statement. “I raised my family here. It’s been a privilege to serve my neighbors.”
During her tenure, Ballerini oversaw approximately $500 million in county funds annually.

Ballerini cited several accomplishments, including the return of more than $500,000 in unclaimed tax sale proceeds to property owners, and the transfer of approximately $326,000 in unidentified funds to local school districts and municipalities.
She also led the county’s banking transition to JP Morgan Chase, implemented new cash management techniques that increased interest earnings to about $8 million annually, and streamlined operations in the row office.

Bucks County Commissioners Chairperson Bob Harvie praised Ballerini’s service.
“Ms. Ballerini is a dedicated public servant who displayed a never-ending commitment to do what was right for her constituents,” said Harvie. “The work she did modernizing and improving the Treasurer’s office will have long-lasting impact. I can’t thank her enough for all she did.”
Deputy Treasurer Mark Moffa has assumed the role of acting treasurer.

“Kris’ contributions have significantly strengthened our county’s financial standing,” he said. “I am committed to building upon her legacy and ensuring a seamless transition for the residents of Bucks County.”
Since Moffa started as deputy treasurer last year, he has worked with staff to further digitize workflows and efficiencies, he said.

Moffa, who has served as a journalist, editor, realtor, and municipal government official, ran unsuccessfully as a Democrat for state representative in 2022.
To be appointed treasurer for the rest of Ballerini’s term that ends in January 2028, Moffa’s name will have to be submitted to the governor and then approved by the state senate.

If approved by the senate to become treasurer, Moffa will resign from his position on Penndel Borough Council at that time.
The county’s treasury is tasked with collecting, investing, disbursing, and reconciling county funds. The office issues various licenses mandated by the state, including dog, hunting, fishing, bingo, and small games of chance licenses. The office also collects the Hotel Lodging Room Rental Tax and plays a key role in the county’s financial oversight by participating in the Board of Investment, Retirement Board, and Board to Select Depositories.
