

A Bristol Borough man has been jailed on assault charges after authorities allege that he struck another man in the head multiple times with a 10-pound weight.

Craig J. Reiss, 30, was preliminarly arraigned before on-call District Judge Daniel Baranoski on charges of aggravated assault, possession of an instrument of crime, simple assault, and reckless endangerment. He was sent to the Bucks County Correctional Facility on 10 percent of $100,000 bail.
Borough police responded to a report of an aggravated assault on the 1900 block of Wilson Avenue on the afternoon of Feb. 9.

The injured manโs wife told officers Reiss struck her husband in the head with an iron weight three to four times before barricading himself in a basement bedroom, according to police.

The wounded man was transported to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital in Philadelphia for treatment of a head laceration and concussion, police said.
Reiss fled the residence and ran over railroad tracks into Delaware Canal Park, police said.

Police at the scene established a perimeter and searched the area.
A search of the basement by officers from Bristol Borough and Bristol Township found it empty, authorities said.
A little more than an hour later, Bristol Township police were dispatched to the Levittown Trace Apartments where Reiss was reportedly at a family member’s apartment.

Bristol Borough police ended their search as township officers responded to the apartment complex, but Reiss was not located, authorities said.
Township police later received a call that Reiss was lying in front of an apartment door, and he was taken into custody.
