Man Faces Charges In Overdose Death

A Central Bucks County man has been charged in connection with a fatal overdose in Middletown Township last year.

Thomas Joseph Hall, 55, of Warminster Township, was preliminarily arraigned before District Judge Daniel Baranoski Wednesday on charges including drug delivery resulting in death, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, criminal use of a communication facility, involuntary manslaughter, recklessly endangering another person, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The district judge remanded Hall to the Bucks County Correctional Facility on $500,000 bail.

Hall was charged after an investigation by Middletown Township police, Bucks County Detectives, and Warrington Township police.

Middletown Township police responded to a home in the 900 block of Poplar Street in the Langhorne section of the township on June 4 after a 9-1-1 call reporting a woman’s death.

The victim was identified as Gisela Leair, 57, and was found dead in a bedroom, police said.

Investigators seized methadone bottles prescribed to Hall, with warning labels stating “may be fatal to adults,” along with lorazepam and oxycodone tablets, police said.

According to a criminal complaint, Hall attempted to enter the Poplar Street home shortly after Leair’s death and, upon being told by Leair’s boyfriend that she had died, allegedly stated, “I didn’t give her anything.”

An autopsy determined Leair’s cause of death was drug intoxication, involving methadone, lorazepam, and other drugs.

A review of Leair’s cellphone revealed a conversation with Hall the day before her death, where she requested oxycodone or Percocet, and Hall offered her methadone. Hall agreed to meet her that night, according to police.

Cell phone data records placed Hall in the vicinity of Leair’s home on June 3 between 7:39 p.m. and 8 p.m.
