A woman who brandished what appeared to be a handgun at a Falls Township police officer earlier this year has been sentenced to jail after pleading guilty to multiple charges.

Last month, Karen Marie Stevens-Nunez, 47, who was homeless and had previously lived in Bristol Borough, pleaded guilty before Bucks County Court of Common Pleas Judge Stephen Corr to aggravated assault, fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, and speeding. Prosecutors did not move forward with a charge of simple assault, according to a court docket.
Stevens-Nunez was sentenced by Corr to six to 23 months in jail and three years of probation. She received credit for time served and was granted parole if she had no misconduct, had a residence, and had a drug and alcohol and mental health plan in place. In addition, the woman was ordered to write a letter of apology and not possess firearms or any other items that can fire projectiles.
According to authorities, the charges stem from an incident that unfolded on June 29 around 4 p.m. when police were called to check on a person in the Fairless Hills Self Storage parking lot on South Oxford Valley Road in Falls Township.

A responding officer found Stevens-Nunez sitting outside an unregistered blue Mitsubishi hatchback. She stood up, retrieved a black semi-automatic handgun from the vehicle, and pointed it at the officer, police said at the time.
In response, the officer retreated to create distance and used the vehicle’s loudspeaker to command Stevens-Nunez to drop the weapon, police said.

Ignoring the command, Stevens-Nunez drove away and that led to a police chase.
During the pursuit, Stevens-Nunez was observed handling the weapon and she displayed it, police said.
The chase ended when police lost sight of Stevens-Nunez near South Olds Boulevard.

Stevens-Nunez was later apprehended by officers in Trenton and transferred to Bucks County custody.
