Police Officer Who Grew Up In Levittown Killed In Shooting

A North Carolina police officer killed in the line of duty on Monday grew up in Middletown Township’s Levittown section.

Greensboro (North Carolina) Police Department Officer Michael Horan died after being shot while responding to a call of a man with a gun at a Food Lion in the city that is about an eight-hour drive from Bucks County.

According to those who knew Horan, he lived in the Levittown section of Middletown Township and attended the Neshaminy School district in the 1990s.

“He was an excellent officer,” Greensboro Chief of Police MJ Harris said on Monday. “He had an outstanding reputation inside the Department and the community.”

“He was probably one of the most giving and generous souls, personalities, that I ever came across, and he never asked for anything in return,” Michael Lawrence, the former chief of Beach Haven Beach Patrol, said in an interview with WXII-TV, a local NBC affiliate..

The Greensboro Police Officers Association started a fundraiser to help Horan’s family in the wake of his death.

Horan worked as a lifeguard and lieutenant for the Beach Haven Beach Patrol on Long Beach Island, New Jersey,from 1995 to 2017. He also served in the U.S. Coast Guard as a search and rescue operator, police officer, and tactical fast boat instructor.

Horan, a father and husband, was hired by the Greensboro Police Department in September 2017. He won a lifesaving award in 2019 for saving a man and son who were drowning during a beach trip.

Tarell Isaac McMillian, 34, of Greensboro, was charged Tuesday morning with first-degree murder, according to Greensboro police.
