The Carl Sandburg Middle School Soundwaves choir has been named the first-place winners of the 2024 B-101 Christmas Choir Competition in the K-8 category, the school district announced.

The victory was celebrated with cheers and excitement at the school located in the Levittown section of Middletown Township.

In a video posted by the Neshaminy School District, students and faculty gathered to celebrate the win that has led to the choir’s song being played on on B-101 throughout the holiday season.

In addition to radio play of their rendition of “Carol of the Bells,” the choir will receive a $5,000 cash prize to benefit the school’s music program and they have been invited to perform their winning song at the Wells Fargo Center during the Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s “The Lost Christmas Eve Tour” on Dec. 22.

Eddie Tamanini, the choir director at Carl Sandburg Middle School, shared his excitement and gratitude on B-101 radio.

“I am in shock and my body is shaking,” Tamanini said on the radio. “I’m thankful and happy for my kids. They deserve this more than anybody in the world.”

The competition, which invites participation from school choirs across the station’s listening area, saw Carl Sandburg Middle School rise to the top.

This year’s K-8 category win comes on the heels of last year’s high school division victory by Neshaminy High School’s Select Choir.
