Bristol Borough Council recognized Merle Winslow’s impressive 60-year career serving the community in various public safety jobs.

At the council meeting Wednesday evening, Mayor Ralph DiGuiseppe III shared Winslow’s service history, noting he joined the Bristol Consolidated Fire Company in 1964 after graduating from Bristol High School. He served in the military and as the borough’s fire marshal and fire inspector in the past, as well as working at U.S. Steel.
In 1995, Winslow become the borough’s deputy emergency management coordinator and then took the emergency management coordinator in the early 2000s.
Winslow has been a frequent sight at borough events and emergency calls over the years.

“We all call ourselves Bristolians and know many so-called legends in this town, but Merle, you really embody what it means to be a volunteer,” DiGuiseppe said.
Council Vice President Betty Rodriguez congratulated Winslow on his years of service and called him a friend.

Councilmember Lorraine Cullen shared her personal experiences with Winslow’s dedication.
“I’ve called Merle for many things, and he’s always been on top of everything. I’m really going to miss having you around,” she said.
The council unanimously accepted Winslow’s resignation that will be effective Dec. 31 and appointed AJ DeAngelis, a borough fire chief, as the new emergency management coordinator.
