The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission and PennDOT will implement a temporary closure and rerouting of the road for nearly two weeks next month.

Motorists traveling through the area will face a detour on Newportville Road between Zimmerman Lane and New Falls Road from Monday, October 14, through Saturday, October 26. The road will be closed around the clock, according to PennDOT.

Traffic will be redirected via Zimmerman Lane and New Falls Road to avoid the construction zone.

PennDOT has told drivers to allow additional travel time when navigating near the project area.

Residents within the vicinity will have local access maintained up to the work zone.

The construction involves replacing the outdated bridge that links Bristol Township with Bensalem Township.

The project is part of a broader initiative to widen and overhaul a segment of the Pennsylvania Turnpike extending from Bensalem Boulevard to the I-95 flyover connection.

Plans for this infrastructure upgrade include expanding the turnpike from four to six lanes, constructing new sound barriers, enhancing stormwater management facilities, and laying groundwork for future highway connection ramps.

The project is part of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission’s ambitious $1 billion modernization strategy to revamping the aging highway system in Lower Bucks County.
