Urban Outfitters is expanding its Bristol Township distribution center with an 1,800-square-foot storage room.

The Bristol Township Council approved a waiver of land development for the project last Thursday evening.

Jennifer Calliagas, director of planning for Urban Outfitters, said the company opened the facility along Green Lane near the Bloomsdale-Fleetwing neighborhood in 2019 as a distribution and laundry center for its rental subscription clothing service.

“Business picked up, so this facility has kind of expanded into its full footprint,” Calliagas told the council.

The storage room will provide easier access to detergents from loading docks and drive-in doors, she explained.

Jeff Skinner, of Atlas Engineers, said the addition will be built onto the existing 330,000-square-foot building.

Most of the new construction will be on existing pavement, with only about 700 square feet on grass, Skinner said.

The project required several waivers from subdivision and land development ordinances, which the council granted.

Urban Outfitters also addressed a traffic conflict with the nearby high school by adjusting shift changes, Calliagas noted.

“We worked with our management on site and they actually came up with a brilliant solution really quickly to just split the shifts a little bit,” she said.

Philadelphia-based Urban Outfitters has found success with the Bristol Township facility that operates under the Nuuly brand.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the facility holds more than two million pieces of clothing that are tracked and rented to customers. At the facility, workers prepare the clothing for shipping to customers.

The Wall Street Journal report said that Nuuly has helped Urban Outfitters turn a profit.

The company recently opened a second Nuuly warehouse, which is 600,000 square feet and located in Missouri.
