At about 2:45 p.m., a Bensalem Township police officer stopped a black Nissan Pathfinder SUV with a suspended registration on the 3500 block of Route 13.

The driver — Taheem Armstrong, 36, of Bristol Township — was found to have a DUI-suspended license and an active warrant, police said.

The passenger — Kevin Williams Jr., 30, of Philadelphia — was later identified, police said.

Williams was seen carrying a gray backpack, which was later recovered nearby, police said.

The backpack contained personal items, paperwork in Williams’ name, and a bag with suspected heroin/fentanyl. Also recovered was a 9 mm handgun, identified as a VERSA Model BP9CC, which was loaded with eight rounds, police said.

During the search of the abandoned Pathfinder, officers discovered approximately 30 grams of suspected heroin, a blender, and various packaging materials, police said.

Officers responded to the area along Route 13 in Bensalem Township and set up a perimeter as they searched for Armstrong and Williams, police said.

With multiple agencies on the hunt, Pennsylvania State Police intercepted Armstrong and Williams along Route 13 and arrested them, law enforcement said.

Both men were found to have suspected marijuana on them at the time of arrest, police said.

Authorities said the suspects had crossed I-95, causing traffic disruptions, during the foot chase.

Investigators said that Williams does not hold a permit to carry and has a prior felony conviction from 2015 that prohibits him from owning or controlling a firearm.

Williams and Armstrong were both charged with resisting arrest, evading arrest or detention on foot, possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, use or possession of drug paraphernalia, and disorderly conduct. Williams was also charged with firearm-related offenses, and Armstrong had additional drug- and vehicle-related charges lodged against him.

The two men were preliminarily arraigned before on-call District Judge Terry Hughes early Friday morning and held on 10 percent of $200,000 bail.
