PennDOT said the closure will start next week as part of a comprehensive $116 million project to upgrade a key section of Route 1.
Beginning Monday, September 9, the left turn lane from westbound Rockhill Drive to the northbound Route 1 ramp in Bensalem Township will be closed for about three months.
Drivers wanting to access northbound Route 1 during the closure will need to use an alternate route.

The recommended detour puts traffic to southbound Old Lincoln Highway and then east on Street Road (Route 132) to reach northbound Route 1, officials said.
PennDOT asked drivers to allow extra time when traveling through or around the work area as delays and backups are expected due to the construction.

The closure is key for the reconstruction and widening efforts on a three-mile stretch of Route 1. The project’s goal is to enhance traffic flow and safety, PennDOT officials said. The Route 1 project is on Phase 2. The second phase will widen the highway.
The $95 million Phase 1 of the project in Bensalem Township is mostly completed.
The $111.5 million Phase 2 of the project along Route 1 in Bensalem and Middletown townships is being carried out byย Chester County-based contractor JD Eckman Inc. The work is expected to be done in mid-2026.
