The work is designed to improve grip and reduce skidding on Big Oak Road.

The project, which involves applying a high-friction surface treatment, begins this week and is scheduled to continue through mid-October.

Motorists traveling through the area can expect weekday lane closures on Big Oak Road, between West Trenton Avenue and Pine Grove Road, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The project is part of PennDOT’s larger program to repair and pave over 200 miles of state roadway in the Philadelphia region this year.

The high-friction surface treatment is designed to increase traction in both wet and dry conditions, according to the state transportation department.

PennDOT contractors will be overseeing the work.

The application of the treatment is dependent on weather conditions.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when commuting through the work zone due to expected delays and backups.
