Crews were called to the residence on Emily Avenue around 2:50 p.m. for a reported fire.

The first arriving crews found smoke pouring from the home’s basement windows and hearing popping sounds, Croydon Fire Company Chief Tom Tryon said.

The fire was burning in the basement, but it was kept in check by a water line that the heat caused to break, according to the chief.

Firefighters were quickly able to put out the flames inside the home.

The homeowner and their dog escaped without injury, Tryon said.

There was fire damage in the basement and smoke damage throughout the rest of the dwelling, officials said.

Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito said the cause of the fire was the failure of an extension cord.

In addition to the Croydon Fire Company and Bristol Township Fire Rescue, the Edgely, Cornwells, Goodwill Hose, Newportville, and Union fire companies responded.
