Emergency crews responded to an unusual call on Wednesday afternoon to rescue a kitten stuck in a sewer drain in Bristol Township.

The incident began around 3:30 p.m. on Oxford Valley Road and South Olds Boulevard when a passerby heard the kitten crying while waiting at a traffic light and called 9-1-1.
Upon arrival, firefighters from Levittown Fire Company No. 2 discovered the kitten approximately 30 feet up the drain pipe and out of reach, an official said.
Despite several attempts to reach the kitten, rescuers were unable to retrieve the frightened animal, the official said.

The Bucks County SPCA and Bristol Township’s animal control officer were also called.
The SPCA and animal control set up a trap with food in the drain, hoping to lure the kitten out.

The rescue operation lasted several hours, with crews remaining on the scene until the kitten finally emerging around 9 p.m.
