Two Bristol Township police officers were commended for their exemplary actions during recent calls, and the township awarded grants to support local fire companies and rescue squads.

At this month’s council meeting, the police officers received commendations from Lt. Sean Cosgrove.
On the afternoon of February 24, Officer Kevin Jackson responded to a crash at Veterans Highway and Ford Road that resulted in two fatalities, with one driver fleeing on foot.
Jackson quickly identified a suspicious dump truck, suspecting it might have been stolen by the fleeing driver.

The suspect fled in the dump truck and crashed further down Veterans Highway.
Jackson’s quick thinking and actions led to the arrest and identification of the suspect, Cosgrove said.

Cosgrove praised Jackson’s “quiet confidence,” noting that new officers often look to him for guidance.
A Bristol Township man with a lengthy criminal history was charged last month in the crash that killed a married couple.
On March 14, in the early morning, Officer Theodore Tabasco noticed a man riding a bicycle without proper lighting.

Upon stopping the man, Tabasco discovered he had an outstanding warrant. A subsequent search revealed the man was carrying a loaded firearm with a laser sight and an obliterated serial number.
Tabasco’s vigilance led to the suspect’s apprehension, Cosgrove said.

Cosgrove described Tabasco, a two-year veteran of the department, as “instantly likable” and highlighted his “integrity, tenacity, dependability, and compassion.”
In a following section of the meeting, Bristol Township Councilperson Joe Glasson awarded grants to the Croydon, Edgely, Levittown No. 2, Newportville, and Third District fire companies to support their operations. The Bucks County and Levittown-Fairless Hills rescue squads also received grants.

Each fire company and rescue squad received $25,000, said Bristol Township Manager Randee Mazur.
Glasson mentioned that the township has been able to provide these grants to fire companies for several years.
