Prokopiak, who took office as a state representative on March 19, continued to serve on the school board until last week when his resignation was accepted by the board.
The Pennsbury School Board now has 30 days to fill the vacancy for the Region 2 board member seat, according to state law.
Interested candidates are encouraged to submit a cover letter and resume to Pennnsbury CFO Chris Berdnik at cberdnik@pennsburysd.org by noon on May 28.

A special meeting of the Pennsbury School Board is set for Thursday, June 6, at 7:30 p.m. in the multi-purpose room of Fallsington Elementary School at 134 Yardley Avenue in Falls Township. The purpose of the special meeting is to appoint a new board member.
Prokopiak’s dual roles as a school board member and state representative was uncommon, but it was permitted under state law. A similar situation occurred in 2023 when Republican State Rep. Kristin Marcell faced criticism for staying on the Council Rock School Board after taking office. She resigned from the school board several weeks later.
Prokopiak, a resident of Falls Township, won the 140th Legislative District seat in a special election on February 13. The seat was open after John Galloway’s election as a district judge.

Prokopiak was elected to the Pennsbury School Board in 2021 and previously served as a Falls Township supervisor from 2002 to 2009. He is a lawyer by profession.
At the school board’s meeting last Thursday, the governing body commended Prokopiak for his service to the district.
“Prokopiak be formally recognized with true appreciation and that best wishes be extended to him for all of his future endeavors,” read the resolution approved by the school board.

The 140th District includes Falls Township, Morrisville Borough, Tullytown Borough, and parts of Middletown Township.
In the upcoming November general election, Prokopiak will face Republican Candace Cabanas, a fellow Falls Township resident who he defeated in the special election.
