Demolition Of Chestnut Street Homes Gets Underway

Demolition work began this week on the remaining row homes on Chestnut Street in Bristol Borough.

The work marked the final phase of a long-term demolition project.

The demolition follows the borough’s acquisition of the last privately-owned property on the street earlier this year. The purchases were made in partnership with the Redevelopment Authority of Bucks County.

“We want to get this down before the spring when people have their windows open with the dust,” Council President Ralph DiGuiseppe said earlier this year.

The demolition of seven homes happened on nearby Elm Street in 2021.

The purchase and demolition efforts for homes on both Elm and Chestnut streets have been part of a borough strategy starting in the 1990s.

An earlier set of row homes on Elm Street was demolished in the late 1980s following a large fire.

Once the current demolition is concluded, the borough plans to explore options for the site’s redevelopment. However, officials have not said what the long-term plans will be.
