Duo Arrested At Burger King After Alleged Police Chase

A routine traffic stop on I-95 escalated into a high-speed chase last week that ended at a local Burger King, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

State police on I-95 northbound in Bristol Township initiated a stop after observing a 2023 Ford F-150 allegedly commit a traffic violation.

The pickup truck did stop, and inside were Tyjerah Sunshine Hayes, 22, the driver, and Devon T. Langford, 30, the passenger, both of Philadelphia, according to court papers.

Langford appeared anxious during the stop, and Hayes failed to provide documentation confirming the vehicle as a rental, state police said.

When asked to exit the vehicle, Hayes instead rolled up his window and sped away, state police said.

The decision to flee led to a chase toward the Pennsylvania Turnpike bridge and the car got off the highway at the Route 13 exit, state police said.

The pursuit ended in the parking lot of a Burger King at the intersection of Route 13 and Beaver Street in Bristol Borough, state police said.

Hayes and Langford allegedly abandoned he vehicle and attempted to flee on foot, state police said.

Officers from Bristol Borough and Bristol Township responded to the scene to assist.

With help of Burger King staff, Troopers and local police were able to apprehend both suspects in the area of the restaurant, state police said.

Langford was found in possession of a substance that is suspected to be cocaine, state police said.

A police dog from Middletown Township was brought to the scene and indicated the possible presence of additional drugs in the car, state police said.

The vehicle was impounded at the state police barracks in Bensalem Township where troopers were securing a search warrant to conduct further examination, state police said.

Hayes was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, resisting arrest, evading arrest or detention on foot, disorderly conduct, reckless driving, driving at an unsafe speed, and other traffic offenses. He was arraigned and held on 10 percent of $75,000 bail. It was later lowered to $5,000 unsecured.

Langford was charged with resisting arrest, evading arrest or detention on foot, disorderly conduct, and possession of a controlled substance. He was preliminarily arraigned and held on 10 percent of $75,000.
