In his debut on “American Idol,” Ricky Moyer, a Neshaminy High School Class of 2019 graduate, won over the hearts of the judges with his performance.
Moyer sung and played piano to Roxette’s 1987 hit “It Must Have Been Love,” which secured him a golden ticket to Hollywood.
The judgesโLionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryanโgave him a standing ovation after the performance.

“It was super crazy,” Moyer shared in a recent interview with 6abc. “It feels like you’re in the TV box when you stand in front of the judges. It’s so surreal, but they’re so awesome.”
Before appearing on the national television show, Moyer honed his skills at Baldwin Wallace University in Ohio. He studied musical theater. He has also been active on social media and shares song covers on his TikTok account.

The journey to the “American Idol” stage began when Moyer did a Zoom performance and then traveled to Los Angeles in October to audition in front of the show’s judges, according to Philly Voice.
Supporting him every step of the way, Moyer’s mother, Audrey, shared the wisdom she imparted to her son.
“I said to him, ‘If you make yourself proud, I will be proud. That is the most important thing: to make yourself proud,’” she told 6abc.

Moyer will return to the hit show in the coming weeks as the audition phase ends.
Moyer isn’t the first Neshaminy graduate to make it big on “American Idol.”
