The smell was noticed around the area of Cedar Avenue and State Road as well as other parts of Croydon during the morning hours, according to Bristol Township Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito.

The smell led to the evacuation of Keystone Elementary School at approximately 10 a.m. after the odor was reported, the Bristol Township School District said in a statement.

Students and staff were removed from the building as a precautionary measure.

“Although it became evident it was due to an outside situation, out of an abundance of caution, students and staff cleared the building and temporarily went outside. All students were safe and remained with staff,” the statement said.

Firefighters and the district’s operations team responded to check into the odor.

The smell drifted in and out of the area before dissipating, Dippolito said.

Bristol Township firefighters worked with Dow Chemical fire crews and were unable to locate the source to the odor.

“The district thanks the fire department for their assistance and professionalism,” the statement said.
