The road will be closed from Monday, February 19, through Friday, February 23 to facilitate preparations for the upcoming Turnpike bridge reconstruction over Neshaminy Creek.

The closure will affect Newportville Road between Zimmerman Lane and New Falls Road. The road will be closed around the clock.

Motorists are directed to use Zimmerman Lane and New Falls Road as alternative routes.

PennDOT said local access will be maintained up to the work zone, bit the department warned of potential backups and delays in the vicinity.

The project is being carried out under a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit.

The commission is gearing up for the bridge construction project that is slated to begin in fall 2024.

The project is expected to last three years and encompasses the replacement of the existing bridge in both Bristol Township and Bensalem Township.

The work is part of a larger project to widen and reconstruct a stretch of the Pennsylvania Turnpike from Bensalem Boulevard to the I-95 flyover connection.

The project will expand the section from a four-lane to a six-lane divided highway. It also includes the addition of infrastructure to support future connection ramps to highways, the construction of new sound walls, and the installation of stormwater management facilities.

The bridge replacement and roadway expansion effort is a key component of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission’s ambitious $1 billion modernization plan for the decades-old highway system in Lower Bucks County.
