
A man suffered serious injuries after he set himself ablaze, according to authorities.

The incident happened in the 900 block of Lincoln Highway near Route 1 in Falls Township Thursday around 6:15 p.m.
A passing motorist spotted a 49-year-old man from Falls Township’s Levittown section dousing himself with gasoline and lighting himself on fire, police Lt. Chris Clark said.
“Various bystanders utilized garments to extinguish him,” Clark said.

Police, ambulances, and firefighters were called to the area for a report of a burn victim, according to dispatch records.
The burned man was rushed by ambulance to St. Mary Medical Center in Middletown Township with critical injuries, police said.

Due to the extent of the injuries, the man was being flown to Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia for further treatment.
The circumstances on why the man set himself on fire were not immediately known.
