The Bucks County Planning Commission announced last week that the project has received the funding through PennDOT’s Transportation Alternatives Set Aside Program.

The proposed project entails the creation of a 10-foot-wide multi-use asphalt trail for pedestrians and cyclists.

The trail, which is broken into four sections, will be just under a mile and will run along Levittown Parkway, Mill Creek Parkway, and Lakeside Drive in Bristol Township, Falls Township, and Tullytown Borough.

The new sections of trail will tie together sections of existing trail that donโ€™t presently connect.

Rich Brahler, the director of transportation planning for the Bucks County Planning Commission, said last year that the project’s aim to fill in the missing links in the existing trail network.

โ€œWe are completing some connections and filling in some gaps to provide a whole pedestrian system,โ€ he said.

The new trail sections will help connect the Levittown Town Center, Levittown Lake, Delaware Canal State Park, and Falls Township Community Park. In addition, the trail will link up with several neighborhoods in the three municipalities.

The project will create Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant ramps at the intersection of Levittown Parkway and Pinewood Drive.

Additionally, the project includes the construction of pedestrian crossings at Levittown Parkway at Sexton Lane and another crossing Mill Creek Parkway at Willow Drive.

The county and planning commission have undertaken several major trail projects, including the first part of the Newtown Rail Trail in Lower Bucks County and other projects in the central and upper parts of the county. The county is looking at several other trail projects for the future.
