A former Langhorne Borough councilman and longtime volunteer firefighter will be honored this weekend, and the public is invited to take part.

The Langhorne-Middletown Fire Company plans to escort the remains of former life member John Scheetz Jr., who was a borough resident, on his last ride Saturday starting at 1:30 p.m.
Scheetz died in December after a long battle with cancer.
On Saturday, the procession will depart from the fire company in Langhorne Borough at 1:30 p.m. It will turn left onto Richardson Avenue, Pine Street (Route 413), Winchester Avenue, Bellevue Avenue, and Maple Avenue, concluding with a stop in front of Borough Hall before returning to the fire station.

“It is John’s family’s wish that anyone available please join us on the route with an American flag, if you have one, to pay respect to John’s service as both a first responder as well as past borough councilman,” the fire company said.
In place of a funeral after his passing, Scheetz opted for a living funeral with friends and family last March. LevittownNow.com wrote about the living funeral at the time.

“Here’s the deal,” 67-year-old Scheetz said at the time. “People die and everybody has a wake for them. But I said ‘Nah, I want to have a wake while I’m still alive and I can see all my friends and get to say goodbye on my own terms.’ I just thought it was a great idea, let’s go for it. I want to live life and end life on my terms.”
Before retiring, Scheetz worked as a plant supervisor at Pickering Manor in Newtown.
In addition to his wife, Francie, Scheetz is survived by two sons and two grandchildren. He had a son who died previously and who he said last year he was “looking forward to seeing again in heaven.”
