The Masjid Al-Huda Islamic Learning Center is set to present its proposal this week for establishing a new center at a closed dance studio in Middletown Township.

The Middletown Township Zoning Hearing Board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday evening and will address the center’s request for variances to establish a place of worship and an educational/community center at 1301 Frosty Hollow Road in Levittown. The meeting is a continuation from a hearing last year.
The proposal seeks permission for 58 off-street parking spaces, less than half of the 118 spaces typically required.
The parking proposal has sparked concerns among nearby residents about parking sufficiency considering the center’s proximity to residential neighborhoods.

Covering nearly 0.9 acres, the proposed site currently consists of two tax parcels, according to township documents.
The Bucks County Courier Times reported last year that a representative from the Masjid Al-Huda Islamic Learning Center described the center as a mosque that would also function as an education and community hub for those of the Islamic faith or others interested in learning about Islam.

The new proposal comes after a previous plan by developer Zafar and Arshad Inc. was withdrawn ahead of a zoning meeting last October.
The developer had proposed a 16-unit townhouse development on the same site, including the demolition of the existing building and construction of the townhouses.
The upcoming hearing where the Masjid Al-Huda Islamic Learning Center will present its case is set for 7 p.m. at the Middletown Township Municipal Complex, located at 3 Municipal Way.
