A homeless man was killed late Thursday night when a tree fell and crushed him in a wooded area in Bristol Township.

The incident happened near Bristol Garden Apartments and the I-95 exit ramp, Pennsylvania State Police confirmed to LevittownNow.com.
Troopers were called to the scene at 11:06 p.m. and found the 54-year-old man deceased under a large fallen tree.
The incident took place in a makeshift encampment that was home to some of the area’s unhoused population, said Trooper Nathan Branosky, a state police spokesperson.

Multiple people appeared to have lived in the area, but no other injuries were reported.
The Newportville Fire Company responded and assisted in the removal of the fallen tree.

The Bucks County Coroner’s Office removed the man’s body early Friday morning.
Authorities have ruled out foul play in the death, which occurred on property owned by PennDOT, Branosky said.
A resident of Bristol Garden Apartments, who identified herself only as Michele, spoke to LevittownNow.com about the incident on Friday morning.

Michele noted the presence of several homeless individuals living in the woods near the apartment complex and mentioned that local residents often assist them and care for stray cats in the area.
Describing the death as a “tragedy,” Michele expressed concern for the safety of the homeless community in the area.

“I knew something bad was going to happen one day,” she said, adding she hopes local government will get involved in assisting those who need it.
In 2018, Beverly Winder, who was homeless, was killed after a dead tree fell on her tent in a camp for those who were unhoused in Bristol Township’s Croydon section.
