The serious wreck occurred on Wednesday around 2:10 p.m. on Route 1 south, just a quarter-mile north of the Oxford Valley Road Exit, according to the Falls Township Police Department.
The initial investigation revealed that a 44-year-old Williamsport, Lycoming County, man was driving a Jeep Cherokee too closely behind a Honda coupe, driven by a 28-year-old man from Trenton, in the left lane. The Jeep Cherokee driver then overtook the Honda coupe using the right lane and subsequently cut back in front of it in the left lane, police said.

The Honda coupe’s driver veered into the left shoulder in what appeared to be an attempt to overtake the Jeep Cherokee. In doing so, he lost control, colliding with the Jeep, police said.

Following the move, both vehicles were forced into the right lane, where they were hit by a Honda minivan carrying five people from Trenton, police said.
The impact sent the coupe and the minivan off the road and into the wooded area adjacent to Route 1, police said.

Ambulances transported all five passengers of the Honda minivan to various hospitals, including Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton, Jefferson Bucks Hospital in Falls Township, and St. Mary Medical Center in Middletown Township.
A woman in the minivan, who is believed by investigators to be in her 20s, suffered a severe injury that led to the amputation of her right arm below the shoulder, police said.

The woman was later airlifted to the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia for specialized care.

Other injuries from the crash varied in severity, but they were not critical, police said.
The Jeep Cherokee’s driver was unhurt, and the Honda coupe’s driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to St. Mary Medical Center for treatment.
