Salvador Castro, a decorated U.S. Army veteran from Levittown, was given a send-off fit for a hero.

Castro, who passed away at the age of 98 on Sunday, September 10, was honored on Monday afternoon with a motorcade that wound its way from Beck Givnish Funeral Home in Bristol Township to Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Upper Makefield Township.
As the motorcade proceeded, a number of police, firefighters, and medics lined the route and I-295 overpasses.
The procession was escorted by fellow veterans, friends, and family members.

New Jersey-born Castro resided in Middletown Township since 1953.
Castro’s military service during World War II earned him numerous accolades, including the Purple Heart, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, a Bronze Star, the WWII Victory Medal, and, more recently, a Congressional Gold Medal.
