The Falls Township Board of Supervisors held a special meeting last Monday evening to award bids for the municipal complex renovation.

The supervisors voted 4-0 to award a $19,230,000 general construction contract to Rycon Construction, a $3,749,000 electrical construction contract to Farfield Company, a $2,343,000 plumbing contract to Myco Mechanical Inc., and a $4,679,495 mechanical contract to Boro Construction. Supervisor Jeff Boraski was not present at the meeting and did not vote.
The supervisors voted to approve the nearly $30 million in spending at the meeting that lasted five minutes.
The special meeting was needed after the supervisors rejected all bids for the project in May due to a “fatal defect,” according to solicitor Michael Clarke.

The township was expected to put out new bids, but the special meeting let the supervisors rescind the previous rejection and move forward with the previously-submitted bids. Solicitor Lauren Gallagher said all bidders had approved of the change.
Supervisors Chairman Jeff Dence said the process was straight forward.
Last month, Dence warned the rejection of the bids could slow down the project.

The township expects to spend $20 million in bonds on the project and use $15 million from the general fund to pay for the work.
The overhaul of the existing complex along Lincoln Highway comes after years of talk. The project will revamp the finance, parks and recreation, the police department, clerks, the tax collector, and public works spaces. There will also be a change from a public meeting room to a community room, which could be used by residents and neighborhood organizations. The municipal building will be upgraded to include extra support and amenity spaces, shared, flexible meeting rooms, incubator space for start-up firms, and more.
