Bristol Borough will be the site of a big Juneteenth celebration Sunday.

The Lower Bucks Juneteenth Committee will host the festival along the waterfront from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The festival will have music and dancers who will begin their showcases at 1 p.m. Arists like the Dancing Divas of Bristol, King Psye, The Breland Family, Platinum Dance Company, Jahmira Lewis and others will perform.
The committee has invited a number of resource vendors, including local realtors, senior home care businesses, social services, the Bucks County Opportunity Council, Wardogs Athletic Association, NAACP of Bucks County, No Longer Bound, Bristol Riverside Theatre, Bristol Cultural and Historical Foundation, A Woman’s Place, and many more.

The celebration will also include a number of food and retail vendors, including The Chicken Coop, Local Harvest Pizza, Hampton House Waffles, Brick House, EbonyV Beauty, Boujee Bee, Unique Glam Jewels, and more.
Bristol Borough began hosting Juneteenth celebrations along the waterfront in 2021.

The reason for the celebration is Juneteenth. Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union soldiers brought the news of freedom to enslaved Black people in Galveston, Texas, two months after the Confederacy had surrendered. It was about 2 1/2 years after the Emancipation Proclamation freed slaves in Southern states.
