A Bristol Township district courthouse was evacuated Tuesday morning after a bomb threat.

The threat caused District Judge Kevin Wagner to push the morning’s hearings and led to everyone being removed from the building.

Wagner said at 10:20 a.m. that bomb-sniffing dogs from county law enforcement agencies were on their way to the building for a search.

Bristol Township police Lt. Sean Cosgrove said the building appeared clear, and the investigation was ongoing.

Police learned around 9:15 a.m. that there was a “threat of a device” at the Bath Road courthouse.

The threat was sent to multiple places electronically, including by email, Cosgrove said.

Township and county law enforcement were involved in the response.

Bomb threats against district courthouses, which are operated by the county courts system, are rare, but they do happen from time to time.

In 2014, the Philadelphia Police Department’s bomb squad responded to the same courthouse to examine a suspicious package. The box was found to be safe.
