The award was presented to DiGirolamo, a Republican, during a special event held in Montgomery County as part of Prevention Week earlier this month.
In his acceptance speech on Thursday, DiGirolamo emphasized the urgency of addressing the opioid epidemic, which he described as one of the “more important and pressing issues in our time.” He expressed gratitude for the recognition, acknowledging the tireless efforts of dedicated individuals throughout the state who are actively involved in prevention work.
DiGirolamo’s commitment to prevention and recovery spans both his tenure as a state representative and his current role as commissioner.

In a statement, the commissioners – two Democrats and one Republican – said they have prioritized efforts to combat substance abuse in Bucks County.
The recent event also recognized the exceptional work of two individuals from Bucks County: Mallory Perrotti, the prevention supervisor at the Bucks County Drug and Alcohol Commission, and David Fialko, a prevention specialist from the Council of Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Both Perrotti and Fialko were nominated and selected by their peers to receive the esteemed “Embodies Amazing” award in recognition of their exemplary contributions to prevention work.
Earlier this month, Bucks County hosted a Prevention Day, which saw the participation of numerous human services and law enforcement agencies. The event, held in Doylestown Borough, focused on resource sharing for county employees and community members.
At the Prevention Day, the Bucks County Drug and Alcohol Commission distributed approximately 200 free Narcan kits during Prevention Day.
