
Several people were seriously hurt in a Monday afternoon crash in Lower Makefield Township, not far from the Middletown Township border.

The two-vehicle crash happened around 1:30 p.m. when a Mini Copper and a BMW SUV collided on Stony Hill Road a few hundred feet from the Newtown Bypass. The SUV rolled and came to rest against brush outside of the Makefield Crossing North business park.

Police Captain Jason Braim said there were five people inside the SUV, one was ejected, and several were trapped.
All the patients were conscious when taken from the scene, Braim said.

Police, medics, and firefighters from several companies responded to aid those who were hurt.
One person suffered serious enough injuries that a medical helicopter landed at neighboring Shady Brook Farm and was transported one patient to Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia.

The rest of the injured were taken by ambulances to St. Mary Medical Center in Middletown Township.
Bucks County government declared the incident a Level 1 Mass Casualty Incident.
The cause of the crash was under investigation as of 3 p.m. Detectives were using a drone to get an overhead view.

Stony Hill Road was closed in the area of the crash.
In addition to Lower Makefield Township police, Newtown Township, Middletown Township, and Upper Makefield Township police were at the scene, along with the Yardley-Makefield Emergency Unit, Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad, and Newtown Ambulance Squad. Additionally, the Yardley-Makefield Fire Company was assisted by several other fire companies.
