At Tullytown Borough Council’s meeting last week, Sgt. Andrew Bunda handed out commendations to numerous people who jumped into action and saved the life of Levittown resident Fred Hoch at the Sherwin-Williams paint store in the Levittown Town Center.

On March 18, Hoch was shopping at Sherwin-Williams when he collapsed and went into cardiac arrest. Store manager Robert Freese immediately called 9-1-1 to summon help.

Bucks County 9-1-1 dispatcher Kylie Mierzwa took that call and guided Freese through CPR.

Responders from the Tullytown Borough Police Department, Tullytown Fire Company, and Levittown-Fairless Hills Rescue Squad were dispatched to the scene.

Officer Ismeal Ramos arrived first and took over CPR.

Next, firefighters Robert Greiner, Frank Baker Jr., and James Collins arrived with a portable automated external defibrillator (AED) and applied it to Hoch.

Paramedic Chris Baker, advanced emergency medical technicians Eric Gennaro, Mike Ritchie, Moselle Conger and EMTs Amy Siefker, and Lister Austin arrived at the scene and took over life-saving efforts.

Due to the combined efforts of these responders, Hoch was successfully revived at the scene.

Hoch was treated in the hospital and released. He was well enough to attend the May council meeting to meet those who saved his life.

“The actions and performance of all those who answered this emergency medical call directly resulted in saving a person’s life,” Bunda said.

Hoch was moved to tears when Bunda introduced him to the audience, which cheered for him. He then took a group photo with those who saved his life and got to meet each of them.
