
The sky over Levittown had a red hue as a fire ripped through a home in Middletown Township early Friday morning.

The fire was reported at 12:10 a.m. and the first crews arrived to find the home in the 40 block of Silverbell Road with flames shooting out of it.
William Penn Fire Company Deputy Chief Jim Bampfield said crews immediately went to work to put out the flames, which was placed under control in 40 minutes.
Part of the burning home collapsed during the blaze.

The three residents of the home were able to escape with their dog.
No injuries were reported.

The house was badly damaged in the blaze and appeared to be destroyed. A vehicle in the driveway was damaged by the heat from the fire.
Due to the intensity of the fire, police evacuated the surrounding homes, Bampfield said.
While the fire was large and intense, Bampfield said the fire was held to the one home.

The residents are staying with a family member in the wake of the fire, according to the fire official.
The Middletown Township Fire Marshal’s Office was investigating the cause of the blaze as of Friday morning.

In addition to the William Penn Fire Company, the Langhorne-Middletown, Levittown No. 2, Penndel, and Newportville fire companies reposnded. The Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad also was at the scene.
