Longtime Fire Company Volunteers Recognized

A pair of longtime volunteers for Levittown Fire Company No. 1 were honored recently for a combined 112 years of service.

During last week’s Falls Supervisors meeting, volunteers Martin โ€œMartyโ€ Gallagher and Gertrude โ€œGertieโ€ Delano were recognized by the supervisors and the fire company.

As he was being recognized for 50 years of continuous service, Gallagher informed Fire Marshal Rich Dippolito that he had actually served with the fire company for 52 years. He has served as captain of the fire police. a trustee, and other roles.

Delano has been serving for 60 years and is a founding member of the auxiliary, which fundraises for the fire department.

โ€œThatโ€™s a long time to spend in a volunteer organization,โ€ Dippolito said of Gallagherโ€™s service.

The fire marshal joked Delano has served for โ€œ110 years and is only 49.โ€

Don Krier, president of Levittown Fire Company No. 1, said he has the utmost respect for both of the seasoned volunteers.

โ€œHe can always be relied on,โ€ Krier said of Gallagher. โ€œWhenever something needs to be done, heโ€™s the one to call.โ€

According to Krier, Delano, who served as the auxiliary’s previous president, became interested with the fire department when her late husband volunteered.

โ€œShe has a knack for arts and crafts,โ€ Krier said. โ€œShe puts together all our baskets. She has a group of helpers. Every year we have over 200 baskets.โ€
