
Two local fire companies have been granted funds by the the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to aid with recruitment, retention, and the purchase of equipment to respond to emergency calls.

The FEMA SAFER grant program has awarded the Falls Township Fire Company $200,000 and the Levittown Fire Company No. 2 $261,200, according to Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick’s office.

The SAFER grant program, which began in 2003, awards funding to fire departments to enhance their ability to have adequate staffing and to ensure fire protection for towns.
This year, FEMA is allocating $560 million to approximately 500 eligible fire departments and volunteer firefighter organizations across the country.
